Sex-Specific Life History Affected by Stocking in Juvenile Brown Trout

چکیده
Salmonids are a socioeconomically and ecologically important group of fish that often managed by stocking. Little is known about potential sex-specific effects stocking, but recent studies found the sexes differ in their stress tolerances already at late embryonic stage, i.e., before hatchery-born larvae released into wild long morphological gonad formation. It has also been speculated life histories can affect juvenile growth mortality, resulting sex-biassed demography reduce population growth. Here we test whether brown trout ( Salmo trutta ) show such sex hatchery- wild-born fish. We modified genetic sexing protocol to false assignment rates used it study timing differentiation laboratory setting, large-scale field experiment mortality different environments. no any environments studied. However, females started earlier than males, while were similar laboratory, they differed significantly depending on location origin Overall, males grew larger showed reverse pattern. Whether or was location-specific. conclude affected stocking other environmental factors remain be identified.

Local adaptation in brown trout early life-history traits: implications for climate change adaptability.
Knowledge of local adaptation and adaptive potential of natural populations is becoming increasingly relevant due to anthropogenic changes in the environment, such as climate change. The concern is that populations will be negatively affected by increasing temperatures without the capacity to adapt. Temperature-related adaptability in traits related to phenology and early life history are expec...
متن کاملInfluence of parental life history on maturation and smoltification in brown trout (Salmo trutta L.)
The developmental pathways of the offspring of three groups of trout, Salmo trutta L., with known life histories were compared: one group from a freshwater resident population and two groups from an anadromous population (fish that have smoltified and fish that have not). The fish were hybridized within a group, and 27 families were obtained and reared mixed in two tanks. Tracking fish specimen...
متن کاملWild brown trout affected by historical mining in the Cévennes National Park, France.
In the protected area of the Cévennes National Park (Southern France), 114 wild brown trout (Salmo trutta fario) were captured at six locations affected to different extents by historical mining and metallurgy dating from the Iron Age to Modern Times. Cadmium and lead in trout livers and muscles reflect high sediment contamination, although an age-related effect was also detected for hepatic me...
متن کاملLife history and demographic determinants of effective/census size ratios as exemplified by brown trout (Salmo trutta)
A number of demographic factors, many of which related to human-driven encroachments, are predicted to decrease the effective population size (N(e)) relative to the census population size (N), but these have been little investigated. Yet, it is necessary to know which factors most strongly impact N(e), and how to mitigate these effects through sound management actions. In this study, we use par...

This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate as a dietary ascorbic acid source on blood parameters of Caspian brown trout (Salmo trutta caspius), including red blood cell (RBC) count, white blood cell (WBC) and WBC differential. A total number of 600 Caspian brown trout (9.6±0.6 g) fingerlings were randomly distributed in triplicates among five treatments each conta...
